Eclipses heighten, expose and reflect what is happening. They shed a different light on what we are doing, personally and collectively. They reveal. They show us the shadow, the normally hidden, the unconscious material we don’t want to look at.
On March 23rd at 5:01 AM PST we will have our second eclipse of March, in the relationship-oriented, balance-seeking sign of Libra. Traditionally, Libra is known for its ability to seek equanimity. Libra wants justice to be served so that all life forms are treated with fairness an equality.
A lunar eclipse in Libra will point out the injustices. A lunar eclipse in Libra will hopefully call on our collective human desire for peace.
But we can’t get to peace by valuing only one side of the equation. A lunar eclipse in Libra will point out where and how we are out of balance, both personally and collectively.
Libra is also a sign that initiates relationships. It does so with its even-keeled charm, its graciousness and its ability to attract to it what it wants. A Venus ruled sign, Libra understands the power of beauty and values the ability to delight others with pleasing attributes.

This is the last eclipse in Libra for some time and the close of a 2 year eclipse cycle in Libra. That means that wherever this eclipse lands in your chart (check your horoscopes for more info), it is wrapping up an intense period of growth here. Look for ways in which you have healed, learned and come more into balance with this part of your life.
The eclipse falls on the same day as the second of three recent squares between Jupiter, retrograde in Virgo, and Saturn, about to station retrograde in Sagittarius. Saturn is also in and out of a square formation with Neptune in Pisces. Venus has just crossed over Neptune picking up the baton and will line up to square Saturn and oppose Jupiter on March 25th. This gives us a loose, but very significant, T-square in mutable signs.
During highly mutable moments such as this, anything goes. Astrologically, this is a time that brings a crisis in consciousness, a dissolution of former structures and possible mass confusion. It’s not a good time to fall for “shock doctrine” that the media, the government or extremist groups are trying to create. Jupiter square Saturn asks us about what we believe in and what philosophy we want to live under.
Venus is the ruler of this eclipse and therefore her opposition to Jupiter and Saturn’s square to them both is an important one. Venus in Pisces is in the sign of her exaltation, meaning that there is a strong need to connect and experience pleasure and abundance with this moon.
But Saturn has other plans.
Saturn brings consequence. Saturn brings boundary. Saturn reminds us of the rules that we must abide by if we are to actualize our potential in a real and concrete way. Saturn squaring Jupiter and Venus, the ruler of this eclipse is a reality check for our fantasies, idealism and gullibility. It checks the path we are trying to grow along. It is the contrast that we need in order to see the seriousness of the situation and the depth of the moment.
